Volkswagen Says Atlas and Tiguan Earn Consumer Reports Recommended Rating
Volkswagen of America says the 2026 Atlas and 2026 Tiguan were named CR Recommended vehicles, a rating set by the independent nonprofit Consumer Reports.
Volkswagen of America said the 2026 Atlas and 2026 Tiguan have been named CR Recommended vehicles by Consumer Reports, the company announced June 15.
The recommendation comes from Consumer Reports, an independent nonprofit founded in 1936, and is not an award issued by Volkswagen. To earn a CR Recommended rating, Volkswagen said, a vehicle must perform well in the areas Consumer Reports evaluates: road test results, predicted reliability and owner satisfaction from the organization's annual auto surveys, crash-test data from IIHS and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and the availability of advanced safety systems.
Both nameplates also appear on a recommended vehicle list for teen drivers issued jointly last month by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Consumer Reports, according to Volkswagen. The company said the 2026 Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are named top new vehicles for teens, and the 2022 to 2024 Tiguan is recognized as a Best Choice among used vehicles for teens, with a starting price under $25,000. The two organizations have produced the annual teen list jointly since 2020, the company said.
"Among the accolades we've received this year, recognition from Consumer Reports is especially meaningful because it reflects real-world performance and owner experience," Petar Danilovic, senior vice president of product marketing and strategy at Volkswagen of America, said in a statement.
Volkswagen said the 2026 Atlas carries a starting MSRP of $39,310 and the 2026 Atlas Cross Sport starts at $38,300, with destination of $1,475. The 2026 Tiguan starts at $30,805, plus the same destination charge. MSRP excludes destination, taxes, title, options and dealer charges, the company said.
The Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport are produced at Volkswagen's assembly plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, according to the company.
Volkswagen described the pricing and vehicle specifications in the announcement as preliminary and subject to change. Consumer Reports and IIHS did not provide statements in the release.
