Write Your Congressman: Defend the Naturally Aspirated V8
GMC just built two of them. A grateful republic should make sure it can build the next two.
To the Honorable Member of Congress:
We write on behalf of the eighth cylinder.
It is not lost on this institution that the naturally aspirated V8, the engine that built the American truck and hauled the American century up every grade it ever faced, is a thing that can quietly disappear. Not by a vote. By a drift. A standard here, a target there, a stack of paperwork that makes the honest engine too expensive to bother building, until one morning the option box is simply gone and nobody recalls deciding it.
This week GMC put two of them into a new truck, in 5.7 liters and 6.6 liters, and proved the engineering still lives. The will is the only thing in question, and the will answers to you.
We ask one thing. When the next quiet rule arrives that would option the V8 out of existence, remember that a free man has a right to eight cylinders, the dignity of repairing them, and the road on which to use them.
