2027 Volkswagen Atlas Gains 13 Horsepower and Better EPA-Estimated Mileage
Volkswagen says a new EA888 evo5 turbo four makes 282 horsepower, the most ever on an Atlas, while improving EPA-estimated highway and combined economy by up to 2 mpg over the 2026 model.
RESTON, Va. - Volkswagen said the 2027 Atlas will make more power and return better fuel economy, pairing a new engine that produces the most horsepower ever offered in the midsize SUV with EPA-estimated ratings improved by up to 2 mpg over the 2026 model.
The three-row Atlas is fitted with the new EA888 evo5 turbocharged and direct-injection 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI engine, which produces 282 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, the company said. That is an increase of 13 horsepower over the outgoing engine and the most ever on an Atlas, according to Volkswagen, which said the new engine also delivers EPA-estimated fuel economy up to 2 mpg better than the 2026 model on the highway and combined.
Atlas models with front-wheel drive have an EPA-estimated rating of 22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined, the company said. Models with the optional 4Motion all-wheel-drive system have an EPA-estimated rating of 20 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined, according to Volkswagen.
An eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive are standard, and 4Motion is available across the lineup, the company said. A hybrid variant is planned for the midcycle refresh.
Volkswagen said further details, specifications and pricing will be announced ahead of the launch this fall.
