2027 Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid Arrives in Four Grades From $33,980

Toyota prices the plug-in hybrid across SE, XSE, Nightshade and XSE Premium grades, with an EPA-estimated all-electric range of up to 44 miles on the SE grade.

PLANO, Texas - Toyota said the 2027 Prius Plug-in Hybrid will be offered in four grades, starting at $33,980 for the SE, and will carry the company's fifth-generation Hybrid System.

The plug-in hybrid comes in SE, XSE, Nightshade and XSE Premium grades, Toyota said. Base MSRP is $33,980 for the SE, $37,230 for the XSE, $38,000 for the Nightshade and $40,675 for the XSE Premium. All prices exclude a Dealer Processing and Handling fee of $1,295, according to the company.

The fifth-generation Hybrid System pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with electric motor-generators to produce 220 net-combined horsepower and an EPA-estimated 0-60 mph time of 6.6 seconds, Toyota said. A 13.6-kWh lithium-ion battery supplies the electric driving range, which the company lists at an EPA-estimated up to 44 miles on the SE grade and up to 39 miles on the XSE, Nightshade and XSE Premium grades. Toyota lists EPA-estimated fuel economy of 51 mpg combined on the SE grade.

New for 2027, the Prius Plug-in Hybrid adds dual-zone climate control that lets the driver and front passenger set separate cabin temperatures, along with revised color options, Toyota said. The car is built at the Tsutsumi Plant in Japan.

Editorial disclosure: Toyota couriered to Drive Observer the 2027 Prius Plug-in Hybrid's supplied dual-voltage charging cable coiled inside a working 120V household outlet set into a slab of Nightshade-exclusive Karashi bodywork, the cord wired to a light that pulses slowly through EV, AUTO EV/HV and HYBRID when the room goes quiet, delivered with a card inviting the desk to 'plug in, power on.'
