Volkswagen Unveils Second-Generation 2027 Atlas Cross Sport With 282 Horsepower, Pricing to Follow Before an Early 2027 Launch
Volkswagen says the five-seat SUV is assembled in Chattanooga, Tennessee, alongside the Atlas 7-seater, that further details, specifications and pricing will be announced prior to launch in early 2027, and that the information and any vehicle specifications are preliminary and subject to change.
RESTON, Va. - Volkswagen unveiled the all-new, second-generation 2027 Atlas Cross Sport on Aug. 10 and said further details, specifications and pricing will be announced prior to launch in early 2027.
The five-seat SUV measures 195.6 inches overall, 5.4 inches shorter and 2.1 inches lower than the 2027 Atlas 7-seater, Volkswagen said.
Volkswagen said the evo5 version of the EA888 turbocharged 2.0-liter four makes 282 horsepower and 258 pound-feet, a 13-horsepower increase over the previous engine. The company calls it the most powerful Atlas Cross Sport engine ever and said better fuel economy is anticipated; no EPA rating is given. The engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic with Tiptronic. Front-wheel drive is standard; 4Motion is available across the lineup. Towing is unchanged at 5,000 pounds with a factory-installed hitch, and a hybrid variant is planned for the midcycle refresh.
The entry trim gets a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, upgraded to 15 inches on 90% of models. IQ.DRIVE driver assistance is standard. Travel Assist, hands-on and operating from 0 to 95 mph, now allows a driver-initiated lane change. Emergency Assist Plus can guide the vehicle to the roadside if it senses a medical emergency.
